The Sar Pass Trek is a popular high-altitude trek in the Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It offers a thrilling experience of walking through dense forests, vast meadows, and snow-covered landscapes, with the Sar Pass itself providing a picturesque panoramic view of surrounding peaks. “Sar” translates to “Lake” in the local dialect, as there’s a small frozen lake at the top of the pass, giving trekkers a sense of reaching a hidden gem amidst the snow.

Day 1: Arrival in Kasol and Acclimatization
  • Arrive in Kasol, a charming village on the banks of the Parvati River, popular among trekkers and backpackers.
  • Take the day to explore local cafes, walk along the Parvati River, and acclimate to the altitude.
  • Evening briefing session with trek leaders.
  • Altitude: 5,200 feet
  • Overnight stay in a guesthouse or homestay in Kasol.
Day 2: Kasol to Grahan Village
  • Start the trek from Kasol through thick pine forests and trails along the Grahan Nallah river.
  • Gradual ascent leads to the traditional Grahan Village, known for its scenic beauty and local Himachali culture.
  • Trek Distance: 8 km (4–5 hours)
  • Overnight stay in tents or a homestay at Grahan Village.
  • Altitude: 7,700 feet
Day 3: Grahan Village to Min Thach
  • Ascend gradually from Grahan, navigating through forests and open meadows.
  • Pass through dense rhododendron groves and enjoy mountain views as you reach Min Thach, a high-altitude grazing meadow.
  • Trek Distance: 7 km (4–5 hours)
  • Overnight stay in tents at Min Thach.
  • Altitude: 11,200 feet
Day 4: Min Thach to Nagaru
  • The trail becomes steeper, offering spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
  • Reach Nagaru, the final campsite before the pass, known for its cold temperatures and snowy surroundings.
  • From here, you’ll see the mighty peaks of Parvati Valley and distant views of the Chanderkhani Pass.
  • Trek Distance: 8 km (5–6 hours)
  • Overnight stay in tents at Nagaru.
  • Altitude: 12,500 feet
Day 5: Nagaru to Sar Pass and Descent to Biskeri Thach
  • Begin an early morning trek to Sar Pass, with a steep and challenging ascent through snow-laden trails.
  • Reach the Sar Pass summit, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of snow-capped peaks, with a thrilling descent through snow fields to Biskeri Thach.
  • The descent is often the most fun part of the trek, as sliding down certain sections is common and adds excitement.
  • Trek Distance: 14 km (7–8 hours)
  • Overnight stay in tents at Biskeri Thach.
  • Altitude: 13,800 feet at Sar Pass; 11,000 feet at Biskeri Thach
Day 6: Biskeri Thach to Barshaini and Drive to Kasol
  • Trek down from Biskeri Thach through dense pine forests, with scenic views of streams and nearby villages.
  • Arrive at Barshaini, where the trek concludes. Take a drive back to Kasol to end the adventure.
  • Trek Distance: 10 km (4–5 hours)
  • Expected arrival in Kasol by afternoon, allowing for further exploration or departure.
