The Chopta Tungnath Trek is a serene, short trek in the Himalayas, perfect for beginners and seasoned trekkers alike. Known for the scenic views and easy access, the trek takes you to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world, perched at an altitude of 12,073 feet. From here, a short climb leads to Chandrashila Peak (13,123 feet), which offers panoramic views of major Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba. This trek is best experienced between April to June and September to November.

Day 1: Drive from Dehradun to Chopta
  • Depart from Dehradun early in the morning.
  • Enjoy a scenic drive through the beautiful landscapes of Garhwal, passing through Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Ukhimath.
  • Arrive at Chopta by evening and set up camp or stay in guesthouses.
  • Drive Distance: Approx. 200 km (8–9 hours)
  • Altitude: 8,790 feet
Day 2: Trek from Chopta to Tungnath Temple and Chandrashila Peak, Return to Chopta
  • Begin the trek from Chopta to Tungnath Temple (approx. 3.5 km).
  • After exploring the temple, continue the ascent to Chandrashila Peak (approx. 1.5 km) for breathtaking 360° views.
  • Descend back to Chopta by evening and relax at the campsite or guesthouse.
  • Trek Distance: 10 km (round trip)
  • Altitude: 12,073 ft at Tungnath, 13,123 ft at Chandrashila
Day 3: Drive from Chopta to Dehradun
  • After breakfast, begin the return drive to Dehradun.
  • Drive Distance: 200 km (8–9 hours)
